Studying at notre école

Our approach to studying French

When it comes to learning the French language and understanding French and francophone cultures, we believe that immersion is the best and steadiest pathway to success. All of our classes and workshops integrate culture, manners and traditions, so you develop a deeper understanding of francophone life.

Classes at the Alliance Française follow a comprehensive learning system based on AF FRAMES (Alliance Française French-American Educational Standards), a program based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages Educational Standards (CEF). We offer every level from introductory to advanced, with each level building upon the previous one. Whatever your initial level - or lack - of language skills, you will improve as efficiently as possible. See our curriculum page to find out more about what AF FRAMES means for you.

The Alliance Française de Seattle also offers advanced and specialized courses (classes à thèmes) and workshops that may match your cultural, leisure or professional interests. These change, so please keep an eye on our offerings. We require a minimum of four students to open a course and enroll no more than 10 students in a class, so that we can always maintain an optimal student-teacher ratio. Private and semi-private lessons are also available.

If you have studied French before, but not with us, please call our office at 206.632.5433 so we can arrange an appointment for your free evaluation.

Alliance teachers

Our professional instructors are native French speakers or possess the same level of linguistic ability. Their goal is to create a learning experience that is not only clearly productive and progressive but also enjoyable. Please see our instructors page for teacher profiles.

How do I register for classes?

If you have had some French, but have not taken classes with us before, you should take an evaluation to gauge your level in the language.
