In the level B1, students will learn to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Students will be able to deal with most situations likely to arise while traveling in an area where the language is spoken. Students will learn to produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest, and will be able to describe experiences, events, dreams, hopes, and ambitions. They will learn to briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Note: This course is conducted online and is limited to 4 learners. It comprises 4 one-hour group lessons (July 6 & 20, August 3 & 17) and 4 one-hour individual lessons (TBD with the instructor):
• Personal letters (2 sessions): organizing a letter, formulas of politeness, holiday letter or postcard, friendly letter, invitation letter.
• Work-related communications (2 sessions): various forms of administrative and private writing, politeness formulas, cover letters, application letters.
• Prerequisite: B1.1 course, One Week Intensive A2 Review, or B1.1 result at placement test. New students: please take a short online placement test https://www.afseattle.org/placement-tests/
