In the level A2, students will learn to understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). They will learn to communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters, and to describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment, and matters in areas of immediate need.

A2.1 is the first course of the general French A2 (Elementary), which comprises courses A2.1, A2.2, and A2.3. During the three A2 classes, students will expand their capacity to describe themselves and those close to them, as well as beginning to talk about events in the past with more precision. Students will be able to effectively describe their basic needs using clear and colloquial language and navigate a variety of situations related to daily life and travel.
• Prerequisite: A1.3 course or A2.1 result at placement test. New students and students returning after more than three quarters are required to take a short online placement test https://www.afseattle.org/placement-tests/
• Textbook (not included in tuition): “Entre nous 2” that covers the whole A2 level, https://www.afseattle.org/store/
• Content of the A2.1 course: chapters 1 to 3—expand the use of the passé composé and introduce the imparfait; express opinions, emotions, and cause; discuss about hobbies, personal interests, and daily routines; introduce historic and evolutions in society; etc.
