In the level B1, students will learn to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Students will be able to deal with most situations likely to arise while traveling in an area where the language is spoken. Students will learn to produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest, and will be able to describe experiences, events, dreams, hopes, and ambitions. They will learn to briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Note: 4 Films by Agnès Varda. (Re-)familiarize yourself with the work of the legendary réalisatrice Agnès Varda. In this one-week class we well explore four films spanning her decades-long career:
Cléo from 5 to 7
Vagabond
The Gleaners and I
The Beaches of Agnès

During each two-hour session, we will take a deep dive into one of the films in order to situate them in their social and artistic contexts and better understand them and how they relate to the director's oeuvre.

NOTE: Films must be screened by participants individually at home before each class. All films are available to stream via the Criterion Channel. It is highly recommended to start watching them well before the class begins and take good notes!
