Le Thé des étudiants

SAVE THE DATE!

Thursday, June 8, 2023 @ 5:30pm

By invitation

The Alliance Française de Seattle looks forward to hosting the traditional "Thé des étudiants" (students' tea), an award ceremony recognizing the merit and perseverance of high school students in their study of French.

Following the tradition of the Cercle français, active in Seattle from 1918 to 1987, when it then became the Alliance Française local chapter, we are delighted to honor high school students’ merit and perseverance in studying the French language as well as their teachers in their exceptional work of promoting it. With over 300 million speakers all over the world, the French language opens doors not only in numerous European countries, but also in Canada and 24 countries in Africa. There are more than 50 million French language learners worldwide, which represents an increase of 10% in the last four years.

MISA BOURDOISEAU | Former and First Executive Director of the Alliance Française de Seattle

Misa (Marie-Thérèse) Bourdoiseau is a retired administrator and French teacher who has been involved in International Education for many years. A French-born and educated dual citizen, she still promotes actively the language and culture of France and French speaking countries, in the Northwest community and beyond.

Misa was instrumental in the creation and development of several organizations in the region such as the Alliance Française de Seattle, Seattle-Nantes Sister City Association, the French-American School of Puget Sound. She also co-owned and managed a French restaurant where teachers brought their students to experience French cuisine and practice their French.

As a former and first Executive Director of the Alliance Francaise de Seattle, President of the American Association of French Teachers (AATF) for the WA/AK/BC/AB chapter, Chair of the National Education Committee and Board member of the Federation of Alliances Francaises-USA, Misa contributed to the well-being and vitality of the French-American community in the Pacific Northwest. In addition to her support to French teachers, for 21 years, she directed successively the American Cultural Exchange Language school and the Alliance Française de Seattle, increasing membership, creating and developing school and cultural programs for adults and children.

After retiring, Misa served as an Advisor and Board member to the EFGSeattle, an after school French language program. In 2012, she helped establish a Memorandum of Understanding between the State of Washington and the Académie de Nantes, benefiting teachers and students of French in our State as well as teachers and students of English abroad. She served as a liaison in this project for several years. She now shares her time between Seattle and her native France.

Misa has received several awards throughout her career, including the Leadership Award from the Washington Association for Language Teaching, Les Palmes Académiques (Chevalier rank) from France, and more recently the Pacific Northwest Gold Community Contribution Award from the PNW-French-American chamber of Commerce.
