Kids (6-8) Beginner A1

SPR23 - Les Lézards 1, Part 3

General French Kids (6-8)
The first year of the A1 beginner program for 6-8 year olds, Les Lézards 1.

For three quarters, along with the textbook and workbook Les Loustics 1 and various action-oriented and creative activities, students will learn to construct simple phrases in French. Topics related to everyday life will allow students to introduce themselves and others, to describe their environment, and to express their feelings and preferences. The workbook also offers a progressive introduction to writing. All activities are conducted mainly in French with an immersive approach.

Textbook (not included in tuition): Les Loustics 1

Prerequisite: Youth A1.1 result at our placement test, or completion of Les Petits Crabes 2. If you wish to start at Part 2 or 3, you will need a Youth A1.1 result at our placement test, followed by an oral assessment with our Admissions Coordinator.

Next course: After completing Part 1, 2 and 3 of Les Lézards 1, students can enroll in Les Lézards 2 in the following academic year.

SPR23 - Les Lézards 2, Part 3

General French Kids (6-8)
The second year of the A1 beginner program for 6-8 year olds, Les Lézards 2. Students in the course have basic English reading and writing skills and some basic skills in French—they can use simple phrases to introduce themselves and describe their environment, feelings, and preferences.

For three quarters, along with the textbook and workbook Les Loustics 2 and various action-oriented and creative activities, students will strengthen the basic skills learned in Les Lézards 1 while gaining a broader vocabulary. Topics related to everyday life will allow students to discover more verbal phrases and to approach the future tense and the sense of formality in the French language. All activities are conducted mainly in French with an immersive approach.

Prerequisite: To start this course at Part 1, you will need to have completed the course Les Lézards 1 or received a Youth A1.2 result at our placement test. If you wish to start at Part 2 or 3, you will need a Youth A1.2 result at our placement test, followed by an oral assessment with our Admissions Coordinator.

Next course: After completing Part 1, 2 and 3 of Les Lézards 2, students can enroll in Les Lézards 3 (in the following academic year).

SPR23 - Les Lézards 3, Part 3

General French Kids (6-8)
The third and final year of the A1 beginner program for 6-8 year olds, Les Lézards 3. At this level, students can already use simple phrases to introduce themselves and describe their immediate environment, simple feelings, and basic preferences.

In this course, students will continue to encounter everyday situations in which to review and reinforce concepts learned throughout the A1 beginner program, including introducing themselves and others, describing their environment, express their feelings and preferences, and communicating in both the present and future tenses. This class is a great review of the textbooks and workbooks Les Loustics 1 and 2.

Textbook: No textbook required. All materials will be made available for download on our e-earning platform Apolearn.

Prerequisite: To start this course at Part 1, you will need to have completed the course Les Lézards 2 or received a Youth A1.3 result at our placement test. If you wish to start at Part 2 or 3, you will need a Youth A1.3 result at our placement test, followed by an oral assessment with our Admissions Coordinator.

Next course: Students who have completed Les Lézards 3 (Part 1, 2 and 3) can enroll in our A2 program Les Pingouins for 9-12 year olds in the following academic year, starting at Les Pingouins 1.

SUM23 - Summer Camp Kids [6-8y] Beginners - Castles and Legends

Summer Camps Kids (6-8)
Theme: Castles and Legends

Join us on an amazing adventure through the Middle Ages and discover the rich history and legends of famous castles, kings and queens of France. Campers will explore the legends and myths associated with French castles, including stories of knights and princesses, secret passageways, and magical creatures. Daily French lessons will follow this exciting theme throughout the week, along with hands-on projects and activities to engage with fun, new French vocabulary and phrases. Campers will get the opportunity to express their creativity through projects inspired by the Middle Ages. We'll also have fun group games and challenges that encourage teamwork in beautiful Meridian Park. We look forward to exploring enchanted French castles and legends together! 

• Week 5: August 7-11 (Monday to Friday, 9am - 4pm)

• Level: A1 Beginners, for AFSeattle students enrolled in Petits Crabes (over 6y old) and Lézards (6-8y), and for new students with a Youth A1.1, A1.2 or A1.3 result at AFSeattle’s placement test.

Summer Camps Kids (6-8)
Theme: Discover Paris, the City of Lights

Campers will explore the sights and the culture of one of the world's most exciting cities: Paris! Throughout the camp, campers will have the chance to explore the city of Paris and all its wonders, study its architectural landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre, and learn how Parisians enjoy culture and arts around their city. We’ll discuss not only the beloved classic Madeline in Paris, but also the catacombs and the local markets, and we'll learn some useful words to get around a city. Daily French lessons will follow this exciting theme throughout the week, along with hands-on projects and activities to engage with fun, new French vocabulary and phrases. Campers will get the opportunity to express their creativity through projects inspired by architecture and the city. We'll also have fun group games and challenges that encourage teamwork in beautiful Meridian Park. We look forward to discovering Paris together! 

• Week 2: July 17-21 (Monday to Friday, 9am - 4pm)

Theme: French Painters and Artists

Embrace your inner artist with this camp dedicated to famous French-speaking artists and painters like Monet, Picasso, and Van Gogh! Throughout the camp, campers will explore different forms of visual arts such as painting, sculpture, and photography, and learn how to describe nature, colors, and emotions in French. Daily French lessons will follow this exciting theme throughout the week, along with hands-on projects and activities to engage with fun, new French vocabulary and phrases. Campers will get the opportunity to express their creativity with their own works of art using different techniques, styles, and mediums. We'll also have fun group games and challenges that encourage teamwork in beautiful Meridian Park. We look forward to exploring French-inspired visual arts together!

Theme: Journey Under the Sea

Campers will embark on an unforgettable adventure exploring the ocean and its many wonders – and learning in French along the journey! From learning about sea creatures and their habitats, to sea travel and the history of scuba diving with Cousteau, campers will enjoy a journey promoting environmental stewardship. Daily French lessons will follow this exciting theme throughout the week, along with hands-on projects and activities to engage with fun, new French vocabulary and phrases. Campers will get the opportunity to express their creativity through projects inspired by the ocean. We'll also have fun group games and challenges that encourage teamwork in beautiful Meridian Park. Campers will have the opportunity to learn and practice French while discovering the vast and fascinating universe. Throughout the camp, campers will learn about the history of space exploration, French astronauts, and the exciting mysteries of outer space! They will also dive into readings like Le Petit Prince, study planets, and learn useful travel vocabulary. Daily French lessons will follow this exciting theme throughout the week, along with hands-on projects and activities to engage with fun, new French vocabulary and phrases. Campers will get the opportunity to express their creativity through projects inspired by space. We'll also have fun group games and challenges that encourage teamwork in beautiful Meridian Park. We look forward to exploring the mysteries of the universe together!

• Level: A2 Intermediate, for AFSeattle students enrolled in Lézards 3 (6-8y), and for new students with a Youth A2.1, A2.2, A2.3 or B1 result at AFSeattle’s placement test.

SPR23 - French Spring Traditions

Discover how Spring holidays are celebrated in France and around the French-speaking world. We will paint eggs, make cards and other fun artifacts, as well as learn new essential vocabulary related to spring.
