Hello Francophones and French learners! Join us for your favorite French exercise: the dictée, in-person at the Seattle Art Museum.

For this special event celebrating the Farm to Table exhibition at SAM, we will be exploring two excerpts related to French gastronomy, which will be revealed at the start of the dictée. The extracts selected were inspired by specific paintings in the exhibit. You'll have the opportunity to guess which pieces of art are connected to the extracts after the dictée!

Put your French skills to the test at this free event occurring during the Saturdays at SAM program.

This dictée is non-competitive and recommended for fluency levels of B1 or above.

Location

Seattle Art Museum, Nordstrom Art Studio

How does it work?

  • RSVP below: free for all
  • Pen and paper will be provided on-site.
  • AFSeattle instructor Pauline Chateau will be reading the text of the dictée. There are several readings:
    • First reading: to discover the text in its entirety (not a dictation).
    • Dictation: Pauline will read the text slowly, and participants will write down the text as best they can.
    • Final reading: to hear the complete text again and look over any forgotten words, mistakes, and punctuation marks.
    • Participants may ask Pauline to read again some parts of the text
  • Pauline will then lead the correction session and reveal the original text. Participants can follow and correct their own versions. This is the time to discuss new vocabulary, compare mistakes or successes, and have fun as a group!

A chance to win a prize!

All attendees will get a chance to win a book related to the excerpt during a random draw at the end of the event.
