While the French New Wave may be best known for its stylish black and white films, Demy largely preferred whimsical, colorful productions. From the dreamy pastel fantasies of Donkey Skin and Young Girls of Rochefort to the melodramatic, earthier, yet visually striking labor-rights musical Une Chambre en Ville, these films demonstrate the range of Demy's vision and visual style and cement his reputation as one of France’s most fun filmmakers.
