The Alliance Française is pleased to present the fourth Seattle edition of Night of Ideas. This
year, Villa Albertine's global event series celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence
and the historic role of Franco-American cultural diplomacy.
The second part of the Night of Ideas Seattle will be held at Gage Academy of Art on Sunday, April 19. This afternoon of programs continues the discussions through hands-on artistic workshops and panel discussions exploring how creative practice offers pathways beyond algorithmic thinking.

Join us for the bilingual workshop "Comics 4 Climate" with Sylvie Joseph-Julien, founder of Sjj Agency and co-founder of the French-Belgian Comic Arts festival Les Troubadours de la BD. Explore how comics can spark dialogue, mobilize communities, and inspire collective action toward a more sustainable future.
Join us for a round table dedicated to the next generation, exploring the theme of "The Future in our Hands". How do the youth, teens and young adults of today view the future and the idea of "progress"? Join us for a discussion open to all ages and perspectives.
Led by a Gage Academy of Art instructor, this one‑hour comics‑making workshop introduces participants to the essentials of drawing, storytelling, and humor. You’ll explore how characters, panels, and pacing work together to shape a narrative, then create a short comic of your own using simple drawing exercises. Perfect for beginners and seasoned doodlers alike!
Throughout the afternoon, we invite you to participate in this collaborative paint‑by‑number mural! Everyone is welcome to help bring this large shared artwork to life. Using readily available paint and brushes, participants fill in small, color‑coded sections that gradually reveal a vibrant, unified image, turning many individual contributions into one collective creation. It’s an easy, welcoming way for people to connect, slow down, and leave their mark on something beautiful together.
