Created in 2014 by the Alliances Françaises of Puerto Rico and New Orleans, Festinema Junior is an annual nationwide French film festival and educational program for children and adolescents designed to promote the French language and Francophone cultures. The festival aims to cultivate a new generation of film enthusiasts and encourage young audiences to analyze films and develop their critical thinking skills.
The Alliance Française de Seattle is looking forward to bringing French-language films to students of the Greater Seattle area. This unique opportunity offers students of all ages to expand their international horizons through cinema and culture.
The Festinema Junior program has five goals across the United States:
1. To promote French language and francophone cultures aimed towards younger audiences.
2. To integrate film as a teaching tool in the classroom.
3. To introduce young audiences to subtitled original versions of movies.
4. To introduce young audiences to independent cinema.
5. To teach young people to express a critical point of view and to analyze a film.
All the screenings are FREE for participating schools! We will bring the films to your institution and provide educational portfolios for each film, which include pre-screening and post-screening activities in French and in English.
