Adult French Courses

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

The Alliance Française de Seattle offers a wide range of French courses for adults. Our classes generally take place at our Wallingford location, in the heart of Seattle. Given the COVID-19 context, all of our classes are held online.

Our teaching staff is composed of highly qualified French instructors, holding degrees in teaching French as a foreign language.

We welcome all students of French and aim to offer fun and effective classes for your learning journey.

New students or learners returning after more than three (3) quarters: take the free placement test before enrolling. Placement tests are mandatory for you.

AFSeattle members get a 10% discount on any additional group class in the same quarter (except for the General French courses) and access to early enrollment priority and discounts. Registration fees are waived for members. More details here.

  • General French: an interactive method-based approach, following a textbook, for a regular learning pace of 1.5h x 2 weekly plus homework. The Saturday classes are 2.5h weekly. General French courses take place over 10 weeks. There are a few hybrid classes offering 20 hours of synchronous classes ("live" on Zoom) and 10 hours of asynchronous learning (self-study on the e-learning platform). Each level comprises three classes (e.g. A1.1, A1.2, A1.3, etc.).
  • Specialized French: a more flexible approach with a special focus (e.g. grammar, reading, writing, oral communication, etc.) at a pace of 1.5 or 2h weekly. Specialized courses are organized in five-week sessions, allowing students to register for one or several sessions during the term.
  • Intensive Reviews: one-week intensive courses (12.5 or 15 hours on-site; 8 or 10 hours online) that allow you to review an entire level. Recommended once a student has reached the end of a level and/or before starting the next one, or as a refresher course.
  • Workshops: our 90' to three-hour workshops are designed to cover a specific topic for a single session (pronunciation for beginners, informal French, French for travel, DELF Preparation, etc.).
  • Self-Study Reviews: available for levels A1 to B2. They can be with or without a tutor. Recommended at the end of a level, for review. The activities consist in modules to be completed on the e-learning platform. Learners are recommended to follow a path of 2-3 hours weekly over 10 weeks. The courses with a tutor comprise weekly office hours.
