Dictée immersive dans le monde de Pagnol

Dictée de la Francophonie: Immersion in the World of Marcel Pagnol

To celebrate the French language this month, AFSeattle invites you to try your hand at the very French exercise of the dictée. We have selected an excerpt of the works of renowned author Marcel Pagnol to offer an immersive experience into his literary world.

This dictée is non-competitive and recommended for fluency levels of B1 or above.

How does it work?

  • RSVP to this event if you wish to participate, and you will receive a Zoom link for the event.
  • Participants can choose between pen and paper, for an authentic experience, or to type their text on a computer (make sure you can still have a clear view of the Zoom event).
  • We trust you not to cheat, that would defeat the purpose—and the fun!
  • AFSeattle instructor Camille will be reading the text of the dictée. There are several readings:
    • First reading: to discover the text in its entirety (not a dictation).
    • Dictation: Camille will read the text slowly, and participants will write down the text as best they can. Usually, sentences and paragraphs are read at least twice at a slow pace.
    • Final reading: to hear the complete text again and look over any forgotten words, mistakes, and punctuation marks.
  • Camille will then lead the correction session and reveal the original text. Participants can follow and correct their own versions. This is the time to discuss new vocabulary, compare mistakes or successes, and have fun as a group!
  • The event will close with a lucky draw: a participant chosen at random will win a prize!

A CHANCE TO WIN A PRIZE!

Two novels by Marcel Pagnol will be offered to a lucky winner, whose name will be picked at random at the end of the event.
